Saas-Fee is a fantastic ski resort in the Alps in southern Switzerland, perfect for skiers of all levels, from party groups to families. Skiing takes place at high altitudes of up to nearly 3,600 metres, making the resort very snow-sure and extending the season compared to many other resorts in the Alps. Additionally, Saas-Fee is known for its high number of sunshine hours, all year round.

Saas-Fee is beautifully situated in a valley at 1,800 metres altitude and is surrounded by high peaks at 4,000 metres. The ski system is very modern and suits all types of skiers. There are 23 ski lifts and 100 kilometres of slopes, of which 20 kilometres are blue runs, 60 kilometres are red, and 20 kilometres are black. The resort is also very popular among off-piste enthusiasts due to the great opportunities for fine off-piste skiing here.

Other Activities in Saas-Fee

Families with children often find Saas-Fee to be perfect, partly thanks to the cosy village, which has been car-free since 1951. If you don't feel like skiing all day, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy. One exciting place to visit is the ice cave Eispavillon, the largest in the world, located at an altitude of 3,500 metres. You can also go dog sledding, tubing, bobsledding, and ice climbing.

For a unique dining experience, visit the Allalin restaurant at a stunning 3,500 metres altitude. It's not just the height that makes this restaurant unique; it's the world's highest revolving restaurant, offering breathtaking views during lunch (the restaurant is not open for dinner).

Travelling to Saas-Fee

As Saas-Fee is located in southern Switzerland, there are several airports to choose from, though none are very close. The most convenient airport is Geneva, as there are plenty of flights there, and the driving time to Saas-Fee by car or transfer bus is between 2.5 to 3 hours. Milan's Malpensa airport in Italy is also a good option, with a driving time of about three hours.

You can also fly to both Bern and Lugano and reach Saas-Fee within 2.5 to 3 hours, although it might be harder to find flights to these airports, especially direct flights.

Saas-Fee is car-free, but that doesn't mean you can't drive there. There is a large underground car park where you can leave your car during your stay. A tip if you plan to drive is to get a SaastalCard (usually provided by the hotel you stay at), which gives you a discount on parking and includes many other offers you can use during your stay.

For those who want to be environmentally friendly and travel by train, it is not possible to go all the way as Saas-Fee lacks a train station. The nearest towns with train stations are Stalden-Saas and Visp, and from these towns, you can take a bus for the last part of the journey, which takes about 30-40 minutes.
