The Alps largest ski areas

These are the major ski areas/ski systems in the Alps – and also the world. The biggest ski areas are found in the French and Italian Alps but in the largest ski system in the world, Les Portes du Soleil, there are four Swiss ski resorts as well.

  • Monterosa - with e.g. Champoluc and Gressoney
  • Sella Ronda - largest ski system in Italy with more than 500 kilometers of ski pistes
  • Vialattea - The Milky Way is one of the most famous Italian ski systems with more than 200 ski slopes
  • Abruzzo - not really part of the Alps but nevertheless a big ski system with 400 pistes spread across 21 ski resorts

Largest ski areas in Austria

  • Arlberg - 260 kilometes of skiing, in e.g. St Anton
  • Hochkönig - three ski resorts with a great variety of ski slopes
  • Ski Welt - 279 kilometers of pistes in total and the largest ski system in Austria
  • Zillertal - just so much good skiing and very close to Innsbruck
