The Alps largest ski areas

These are the major ski areas/ski systems in the Alps - and also the world. The biggest ski areas are found in the French and Italian Alps but in the largest ski system in the world, Les Portes du Soleil, there are four Swiss ski resorts as well.

Largest ski areas in France

  • L'espace Killy - Tignes and Val d'Isere form a large system
  • Le Grand Massif - 265 km of pistes bordering Switzerland
  • Les Portes du Soleil - largest ski system in the world, stretches into Switzerland
  • Les Trois Vallées - seven ski resorts in three valleys form a large ski system
  • Paradiski - four ski resorts with in total 425 kilometers of ski pistes
  • Espace Lumière - smaller French ski area with lots of sun and suitable for families with children
  • Les Sybelles - six interconnected ski resorts provide 310 km of pistes

Largest ski areas in Italy

  • Monterosa - with e.g. Champoluc and Gressoney
  • Sella Ronda - largest ski system in Italy with more than 500 kilometers of ski pistes
  • Vialattea - The Milky Way is one of the most famous Italian ski systems with more than 200 ski slopes
  • Dolomiti Superski - 12 smaller ski areas wrapped in one gives 1200 km of ski slopes(!)
  • Abruzzo - not really part of the Alps but nevertheless a big ski system with 400 pistes spread across 21 ski resorts

Largest ski areas in Switzerland

  • 4 vallées - four valleys with four ski resorts and 400 kilometers of pistes
  • Jungfrau Region - five of the most popular Swiss ski resorts - in one ski pass!
  • Les Portes du Soleil - 650 kilometers of pistes! Ski resorts in both Switzerland and France
  • Aletsch Arena - nice ski area in southern Switzerland, close to the Italian border
  • Toggenburg - small ski area consisting of three villages close to Zurich

Largest ski areas in Austria

  • Arlberg - 260 kilometes of skiing, in e.g. St Anton
  • Hochkönig - three ski resorts with a great variety of ski slopes
  • Ski Welt - 279 kilometers of pistes in total and the largest ski system in Austria
  • Zillertal - just so much good skiing and very close to Innsbruck
  • Skicircus - four major ski resorts (including Saalbach) form this massive ski area with a total of 270 km of skiing
  • Snow Space Salzburg - less than an hour from Salzburg is this ski area that includes Flachau and Wagrain
  • Salzburger Sportwelt - A total of 7 ski resorts form this ski area (including Snow Space Salzburg)
  • Ski amadé - Five smaller ski areas together create this gigantic ski area with 760 kilometers of skiing
  • Dachstein West - smaller ski area with three villages, not far from Salzburg
  • Ski-Optimal Hochzillertal - the ski resorts of Kaltenbach and Hochfügen form this ski area

Andorra

We know, Andorra is not the Alps, but the Grandvalira ski area must still be mentioned as it with its 210 kilometers of pistes and six connected villages gives you superclass skiing and snowboarding!
