Aspen – One of four areasThe Snowmass area, where Aspen is included, is the second largest skiing area in the US. It consists of four areas: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk. Aspen is located on high altitude compared to most other North American ski resorts. The village is located at 2,500 meters above sea and the skiing area at most reaches 3,800 meters.
The different areas have different traits, and surely, you will want to discover them all. You can travel around by the ski bus, which is very convenient.
Snowmass is the number one area for families and has several times been voted best ski resort in the US. In case you travel with children, we would recommend you to stay in Snowmass village.
Aspen mountain is for more advanced skiers. You will find an abundance of red and blue pistes and the vertical drop is high. Expect thrilling rides!
Aspen Highlands is mixed with a combination of easy family slopes to more advanced red and black ski slopes. You will basically find something for everyone. The ones who are advanced skiers will benefit the most.
Buttermilk is targeted at beginners and families. Long, soft ski slopes and few advanced skiers that race fast down the slopes. It is also well suited for snowboarders who like jumps, rails and half-pipes.
Discover champagne snowIn Aspen you will find the powder snow that North America is known for, "champagne powder". The snow is dry and nice and settles like a fluffy rug on top of the piste after a snow fall. Since the snow is ry and has low water content, it usually doesn’t get icy on the slopes. The best snow is usually found in January and February, so plan your visit to these months if possible.
