Most people associate skiing in the US with the western parts of the US, but in the east there are a few real pearls. One of them is Killington Mountains, which is about three hours from Boston and Montreal respectively and five hours from New York. Killington Mountains is a perfect ski resort if you wish to combine a great skiing holiday with culture or shopping in a big city. If you are a foreigner, take the opportunity of visting the US while the dollar is more affordable. Ski-lift cards, hotels and restaurants are quite inexpensive.

A large skiing area with its own character

Killington is the largest and best ski resort in the area. There are over 200 pistes and 32 lifts distributed over a large skiing area. Killington is wellknown for its varying skiing terrain, with large open pistes that you can leave and take off into the forest. There are several snow parks with jumps and rails for you to discover. A number of pistes are not maintained and constitute some kind of half off-piste alternative. You can feel assured that there will be enough snow for the snow depth averages six meters every season. In a way Killington's topography is similar to that of the low land mountains of eastern or northern Europe, but with that special American touch.

An active holiday

In Killington there are plenty of activities for those who still have energy left after a long day in the slopes or maybe as a day of rest from skiing or snowboarding. Go for a snow mobile safari or a walk on snow shoes or take a cool ride in a one of the toboggan slopes. In the area there are also good shopping facilities with anything from cute little shops of the Vermont kind to outlets and shopping malls in nearby Manchester. This is where you will find several of the large brand leaders at low prices. There are also luxurious spaas to visit if you wish to spoil yourself.

For those who like to have a look around on their holidays a rental car is recommended. Go for a drive in one of the surrounding small villages and experience a true American smalltown idyll.

Where to stay

It is comparatively inexpensive to find good lodging in Killington. There are plenty of various alternatives from hotels and resorts to private rooms, bed and breakfast places and apartments. You can, of course, also find traditional American motels.
