St. Anton, Austria

St. Anton, the pearl in the Arlberg region in Austria, is so fantastic that you never want to go home again. Well, at least not until the snow is melting in May. There are 280 km of pistes as well as 180 km of off-piste skiing - quite extraordinary! There are 83 lifts to help you get to the top of the hills. Most pistes are red or black, but there are also family areas with plenty of green and blue slopes, for example in Nasserein.

Party or family vacation?

St. Anton was for a long time a wellknown favourite resort for young Swedes and other Europeans and was filled every winter with young people full of expectations. A lot of young people still come here but now there is a more varied mixture of visitors. A lot of families with kids have discovered that St. Anton offers them a great skiing experience as well. You decide yourself if you want to have a spectacular time with partying 24 hours a day or just peace and quiet during your ski holiday.

280 kilometers of the best possible pistes

In the area around St. Anton you will also find St. Cristoph, Stuben, Zürs and Lech near the Swiss border. Together they form the gigantic skiing area with ski-lifts and slopes. From all the resorts you can look out across the valleys and the surrounding summits that are 3,000 meters high. You can buy a lift card covering all the areas for about 230 Euros per week (adults). There are reduced prices for children, young people and senior citizens.

More untouched powder snow than you can imagine

The off-piste area is very easy to access and several days after snowfall you can still find untouched stretches of powder snow. It is not unusual for skiers to wade in snow up to their waists. St. Anton is, in other words, an area where there is no risk of not having enough snow, which is actually true of the entire western part of the Austrian Alps.

The average snow depth in the mountains is 4.5 meters and in the valley 1.2 meters. The snow remains right up to May. In order to find the really nice off-piste places a good alternative is to hire a guide for the day.

Austrian good humour and alpine rave

In 2001 St. Anton organized the Alpine World Championship Games. The village underwent great changes, for example new hotels, restaurants and a new railway station. There are nowadays hundreds of restaurants and cafés offering all kinds of food. There are, of course, lots of after ski places you need to explore during your holidays. Some of the best known places are the Krazy Kanguruh and the Moosevirt. The Kandahar and the Funky Chicken may be disastrous for your next skiing day if you don't opt for an early night.
